After a much needed siesta after lunch on August 14, 2012, Brad and I walked to the Huab reception/dining area. A Pearl-spotted Owlet, Glaucidium perlatum, was perched in a tree near the reception/food-prep area. This owl finally turned its head so that its 'false' eye-spots (two black patches of feathers offset by white semicircles) were visible. These mimic what's on the front side of the bird and may help to make the owl look larger to predators than it actually is. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this clear, sunny day.
