We returned to the Reception/Dining area on the morning of August 13, 2012, for breakfast around 9 A.M. following some early morning birding. This female Red-billed Quelea, Quelea quelea, was quietly perched in a tree when Brad took this photograph. Legs, bill, and eye ring are reddish. We encountered large flocks of Queleas flying and perching. Some breeding colonies can involve tens of thousands of individuals; large enough to make them agricultural pests in some areas. Temperatures were up into the low 80's on this clear, breezy morning.
