We drove back to Namutoni Camp late in the morning on August 18, 2012, to take a short break. While there, Brad and I walked along the raised walkway leading to the waterhole. A Ruff, Philomachus pugnax, was feeding near the waterhole. The short bill is slightly decurved and has a bulbous tip. Upperparts are boldly scaled. The face is featureless except for a small white patch at the base of the bill. Legs are orangish. Temperatures were in the high 80's on this clear day.
