Brad took this closeup of a Social Weaver, Philetairus socius, perched in a tree near the walkway surrounding part of the waterhole at Okaukuejo Camp in Etosha National Park (Namibia). We were birding the area after breakfast on the morning of August 16, 2012, and were delighted to see these weavers as well as the nest they were constructing. The brown crown, black facial and throat area surrounding a bluish bill along with a scaly mantle and flanks are characteristic of the species. Sexes are alike. Temperatures were in the upper 60's on this partly cloudy day.
