After breakfast and a hike around the Huab property the morning of August 14, 2012, we boarded a safari vehicle to go birding. This Southern White-crowned Shrike, Eurocephalus anguitimens, was foraging along the side of the dry Huab River bed. With its white crown, black mask, brownish upperparts, white chest and brownish belly, it is quite a stunning bird. Sexes are alike. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this clear, sunny day.
