We spent the early part of the morning on August 17, 2012, birding around Halali Camp and waterhole. This Southern White-faced (Scops) Owl, Ptilopsis granti, was snoozing in a tree a short distance from our room. The white facial disk is outlined with a broad black line. This species is gray with orange eyes, ear tufts, and has fine black streaking on its underparts. Temperatures were in low 70's on this beautiful morning with clear blue skies.
