Brad photographed this Spike-heeled Lark (Chersomanes albofasciata) after we left the Okondeka Waterhole in Etosha National Park (Namibia) on August 16, 2012, and were on our way back to Okaukuejo. Characteristics of this bird include an erect stance, a long slender decurved bill, white throat, and white-tipped short tail. The long, straight, hind claw is visible here. This coloration is typical of birds of the northwest. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this sunny afternoon.
