We drove through Bagani Mahangu Game Reserve in Namibia the afternoon of August 19, 2012, to enter into Botswana at the Muhembo Border Post. Brad photographed this side-view of a Spur-winged Goose, Plectropterus gambensis, that landed in a marshy area. This large goose has glossy black plumage with white underparts. The male has a fleshy caruncle (a wartlike protuberance) on the forehead. The face has a variable amount of white on it. Feet and legs are pinkish. Temperatures were in the low 90's on this clear day.
