Brad photographed this flying Tawny Eagle, Aquila rapax, at the Rietfontein Waterhole in Etosha National Park (Namibia) the afternoon of August 16, 2012. (We were driving towards Halali Camp, our next over-night stop.) The gape of this species extends only to the middle of the eye. This individual is a reddish-brown color with dark mottling. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this sunny afternoon.
