We photographed this Violet-eared Waxbill (Uraeginthus granatinus) perched on a branch while we were on our way to Okaukuejo Camp in Etosha National Park (Namibia) during the afternoon of August 15, 2012. The male has chestnut-colored upperparts and underparts. The bill, iris and eye wattle are red. The forecrown and rump are a deep-blue color. Cheeks are purple, and the throat is black. Note the long dark tail. Temperatures were in the upper 60's with partly cloudy skies.
