We photographed this Violet-eared Waxbill (Uraeginthus granatinus) perched in an Acacia Tree while we were on our way to Okaukuejo Camp in Etosha National Park (Namibia) during the afternoon of August 15, 2012. The male has chestnut-colored upperparts and underparts. The bill, iris and eye wattle are red. The forecrown and rump are a deep-blue color. Cheeks are purple, and the throat is black. Note the long dark tail. Temperatures were in the upper 60's with partly cloudy skies.
