After lunch followed by a siesta on August 14, 2012, Brad and I walked to the Huab reception/dining area where we boarded our safari vehicle for late afternoon birding. The White-crested Helmet-Shrike, Prionops plumatus, was an interesting species to observe and photograph. It's a noisy, chattering, gregarious species that carries on its social activities with a lot of bill clicking and snapping. A dark-colored pupil is set off by a yellow iris and eye-wattle. Pale-gray bristles are found on the forehead. Underparts are white as is the nuchal area. Black wings have white markings. Legs are an orangish-yellow color. The dorsal part of the tail is black, while the ventral is white. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this clear, sunny day.
