We were up early the morning of August 13, 2012, to do some birding while the temperatures were still low. Brad photographed a White-tailed Shrike, Lanioturdus torquatus, as it perched in a nearby shrub. The crown and nape are black. The pale eye is surrounded by black. The forecrown is white as is the throat, upper breast, and belly. A black band extends across the chest. The back and sides of the bird are gray. All in all, it's a beautiful bird. Temperatures on this partly cloudy morning were in the upper 60's.
