After breakfast and a hike around the Huab property the morning of August 14, 2012, we boarded a safari vehicle to go birding. This White-tailed Shrike, Lanioturdus torquatus, was walking along the side of the dry Huab River bed. The short white tail has a dark center. The head and nape are black with a white area above the sharp, pointed, dark bill. The mantle is gray. The iris is yellowish. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this clear, sunny day.
