We birded the Walvis Bay Salt Works during the afternoon of August 10, 2012. Brad photographed these male Chestnut-banded Plovers (Charadrius pallidus) as they walked near the salt pans. The Chestnut-banded is Africa's smallest and palest plover. Males have a chestnut-colored breast-band. Fully developed males have a black crown and black lores. Temperatures were in the mid-60's on this overcast afternoon.
