We birded the Walvis Bay Salt Works area during the afternoon of August 10, 2012. Brad photographed this Common Tern (Sterna hirundo) in flight. In breeding plumage, this tern has light silvery-gray upperparts, with conspicuous black outer primaries on the wingtips. A distinctive black cap covers the head and eyes and extends down to the back of the neck. Underparts are a grayish-white color. Temperatures were in the mid-50's on this misty, overcast afternoon.
