After breakfast on August 11, 2012, we birded coastal areas, bays, and lagoons along with the gravel plains in and around Swakopmund. Brad photographed a Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea) as it walked near our vehicle. The gently tapering black bill is evenly decurved. Upperparts are a plain, gray-brown color. Underparts and the rump are white. Temperatures were in the mid-70's on this overcast morning with intermittent drizzle.
