We birded the Walvis Bay Salt Works area during the afternoon of August 10, 2012. After a lot of searching, we finally found a Damara Tern (Sternula balaenarum). The back and wings are a pale gray color. The rest of this bird is white except for a black cap (full cap-breeding plumage; partial cap with white from bill to top of crown-non breeding plumage). The bill is black throughout the year. Temperatures were in the mid-50's on this misty, overcast afternoon.
