After lunch on August 10, 2012, we birded the Walvis Bay Saltworks area. Brad photographed this sign as we drove along birding the area. Dorob National Park was created in December of 2010. It extends from just south of Walvis Bay to the Ugab River in the north. The creation of this park along Namibia’s coast allows the entire coastline of the country, 976 miles, from the Kunene River, at the northern border with Angola, to the Orange River, bordering South Africa, to be protected. Dorob National Park consolidates three national parks: Skeleton Coast, Namib-Naukluft, and Sperrgebiet. It also includes four wetlands of international importance. Temperatures were in the low-60's on this overcast afternoon.
