We birded the Walvis Bay Salt Works area during the afternoon of August 10, 2012. Brad photographed this Eared Grebe (Black-necked Grebe), Podiceps nigricollis, as it swam in a nearby pan. This adult, in non-breeding plumage, has a black head with a white throat and foreneck. The eyes are red. The dark back is high and rounded. Temperatures were in the mid-60's on this overcast afternoon.
