We birded the Walvis Bay Saltworks and Walvis Bay area on August 10, 2012. Brad photographed this Gray Heron (Ardea cinerea) as it flew over a marshy area near us. The bill and legs are yellowish. A broad black band extends from the forehead to the nape. The crown, head, and neck are white. This photo shows the bird's gray underwings and white underparts with black streaking down the mid-line. Temperatures were in the mid-60's on this overcast morning with intermittent drizzle.
