After breakfast on August 11, 2012, we birded coastal areas, bays, and lagoons along with the gravel plains in and around Swakopmund. Brad photographed Gray's Lark (Ammomanopsis grayi) as it walked near a Suricate (Meerkat) burrow. This small lark is very pale and appears almost white. Upperparts are plain, and the conical bill is short and pale. Birds are best identified by the male's call. Males have prolonged aerial display flights (such as the one we witnessed with the Dune Lark). Temperatures were in the mid-70's on this overcast morning.
