We birded the Walvis Bay Saltworks and Walvis Bay area on August 10, 2012. Brad photographed this Great White Pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus) in breeding plumage as it flew overhead. The upper mandible is pink and gray with a small reddish-pink hook on the tip. The distinctive, elastic pouch underneath is a bright yellow. White underwings contrast with black flight feathers. Temperatures were in the mid-60's on this overcast afternoon.
