We birded the Walvis Bay Saltworks and Walvis Bay area during the morning of August 10, 2012. Brad photographed this group of Great White Pelicans (Pelecanus onocrotalus) showing off their breeding plumage. The upper mandible is pink and gray with a small reddish-pink hook on the tip. A distinctive, elastic pouch underneath is a bright yellow. The body has a pink flush of coloration, and the feet and legs are also pink. Males are larger than females, and all exhibit varying coloration around the eyes. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this overcast morning.
