We birded the Walvis Bay Saltworks and Walvis Bay area on August 10, 2012. Brad photographed this Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) waking in the Lagoon in Walvis Bay. We were birding our way to a picnic area where we had lunch. The appearance of immature Greater Flamingoes varies considerably between individuals. This is also true for the age at which definitive plumage appears, typically after 4-6 years. Temperatures were in the mid-60's on this overcast afternoon.
