We birded the Walvis Bay Saltworks and Walvis Bay area on August 10, 2012. Brad photographed this Hartlaub's Gull (Chroicocephalus hartlaubii) as it walked on the beach near us. This endemic is all-white with gray wings, black bill and red legs. In breeding plumage, the head shows faint traces of a gray hood and a red bill. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this overcast morning with intermittent drizzle.
