During the morning of August 10, 2012, we birded in the Walvis Bay area. Brad photographed this juvenile Hartlaub's Gull (Chroicocephalus hartlaubii) as it stood near us. The adult of this endemic species is all-white with gray wings, black bill, and red legs. This particular juvenile had dark eyes, grayish legs, and grayish-brown streaked to mottled plumage. The primaries are black. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this overcast morning.
