After breakfast on August 11, 2012, we birded coastal areas, bays, and lagoons along with the gravel plains in and around Swakopmund. Brad photographed a Hartlaub's Gull (Chroicocephalus hartlaubii) as it stood on a nearby bank. This endemic is all-white with gray wings, black bill and red legs. In breeding plumage, the bill is red, and the head shows faint traces of a gray hood. Temperatures were in the mid-70's on this overcast morning.
