We got up early on August 10, 2012, and decided to bird in the Hansa Hotel's courtyard area before breakfast. This Laughing Dove (Spilopelia senegalensis) was one of the species that we saw. With its pinkish-colored head, black bill, rusty-colored back, and black spotted, cinnamon colored breast, this species can be differentiated from other doves of the area by its lack of a black collar. Its name comes from its distinctive coo that sounds just like a human laughing. Temperatures were in the upper 60's on this cloudy morning.
