We birded the Walvis Bay Saltworks and Walvis Bay area on August 10, 2012. Brad photographed this Lesser Flamingo (Phoenicopterus minor) as it fed in the Walvis Bay Lagoon. This beautifully pink-colored bird has a dark maroon bill with a black tip and a small upper mandible. From a distance, the bill appears to be black. Lesser Flamingoes are the smallest and most common of the flamingoes. Temperatures were in the mid-60's on this overcast afternoon.
