After a full day of birding the Walvis Bay and Walvis Bay SaltWorks areas on August 10, 2012, we returned to the Hansa Hotel in Swakopmund. Brad and I decided to bird the hotel's courtyard before looking around the city. We photographed this Orange River White-Eye (Zosterops pallidus) as it perched on the courtyard fountain. The throat and vent of this endemic species are yellow. A cinnamon color washes the flanks. Small, stiff white feathers (not a skin-wattle) surround the bird's eyes...giving the species its name. Temperatures were in the mid-60's with overcast skies.
