We birded in the Walvis Bay area on August 9, 2012, and were heading back to Swakopmund when Brad photographed this Southern Pale Chanting-Goshawk (Melierax canorus) as it perched atop a dune covered with a thornbush. The extensive Kuiseb Delta region provided us with opportunities to view many interesting desert species. The coral-pink colored cere and legs, pale gray upperparts and chest, upright stance, and white rump are characteristic field marks of this species.
