I know. I know...not the greatest photo in the world. However, a scope's view is all we got of this Spotted Eagle-Owl (Bubo africanus) perched atop a rocky escarpment. We were birding in the Namib-Naukluft National Park of Namibia which encompasses part of the Namib Desert (considered the world's oldest desert) and the Naukluft mountain range. This is a medium-sized, gray-brown owl with lightly blotched underparts and fine barring. The iris is yellow. It is the smallest of the Eagle-Owls. Temperatures were in the upper 70's on this overcast morning.
