During the morning of August 10, 2012, we birded Walvis Bay and Walvis Bay Saltworks. Brad photographed this Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) walking near the shoreline. The Whimbrel is a common summer visitor to the area. It has a dark cap with a whitish central line and a wide pale supercilium. Its decurved bill is about two and a half times the width of the head. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this overcast morning.
