After breakfast on August 11, 2012, we started birding in the Mile 7 SaltWorks area near Swakopmund. Man-made salt pans have been created here for the harvesting of salt for human consumption. Brad photographed a White-breasted Cormorant (Phalacrocorax lucidus) near the pan. It is a large cormorant and has a white throat and breast. The adult, shown here, has green eyes, a pale gray bill, and yellow facial skin (gular area). Temperatures were in the mid-70's on this overcast morning with intermittent drizzle.
