After returning from our boat trip to bird along the shorline areas of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambezi River above Victoria Falls, Joanne and I joined our VENT guide, Geoff, for some additional birding on the grounds of The Royal Livingstone Hotel. Brad photographed a Black-headed Oriole (Oriolus larvatus) that was perched in the upper branches of a large tree. The red iris is not visible here amid the black head feathers. Sexes are similar with yellowish mantles and underparts. The long bill is pink. Temperatures on this sunny day (August 25, 2012) were in the low 80's.
