Brad took this photo of a juvenile Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiacus) nestled on a grassy bank of the Zambezi River above Victoria Falls the morning of August 25, 2012. We were out on an early morning boat trip to bird and look for big game in the Mosi-oa-Tunya (smoke that thunders) National Park's shoreline areas. Temperatures on this sunny day were in the low 70's. Juveniles (so cute!) are duller in color and have a gray tinge on the forewings. The crown and neck are darker, and the beak, legs, and iris are yellowish. Juveniles lack the distinctive dark eye and breast patches of the adult.
