On August 25, 2012, we left the Royal Livingstone Hotel in a safari vehicle and drove to a different entrance to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park for a late afternoon birding and big game expedition. This Chacma Baboon, Papio ursinus, had a juvenile clutching her breast as she raced across the open grassland. The second, shorter tail, belongs to the juvenile. Temperatures on this sunny day were in the low 90's. Females reach sexual maturity around five years of age and typically reproduce once every two years. Gestation is six months.
