On August 25, 2012, we left the Royal Livingstone Hotel in a safari vehicle and drove to a different entrance to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park for a late afternoon birding and big game expedition. Brad photographed an adult Common Warthog, Phacochoerus africanus, that was feeding on the side of the roadway. Temperatures on this sunny day were in the low 90's. A wild member of the pig family, the warthog lives in grassland, savanna, and woodland habitats in Sub-Saharan Africa. Depending on food availability, warthogs will graze on short perennial grasses or use their snout and feet to dig for bulbs, rhizomes, and roots.
