On August 25, 2012, we left the Royal Livingstone Hotel in a safari vehicle and drove to a different entrance to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park for a late afternoon birding and big game expedition. A female White (Square-lipped) Rhinoceros, Ceratotherium simum, and her seven month old calf were foraging in a grassland near the roadway. The white rhinos in this area of the park are protected by armed guards....entry to the area is restricted. Temperatures on this sunny day were in the low 90's. We did get out of our vehicle but kept our distance.
