On August 25, 2012, we left the Royal Livingstone Hotel in a safari vehicle and drove to a different entrance to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park for a late afternoon birding and big game expedition. Brad took a closeup shot of a seven month old White (Square-lipped) Rhinoceros, Ceratotherium simum, calf that was foraging in a grassland near the roadway. The white rhinos in this area of the park are protected by armed guards....entry to the area is restricted. Temperatures on this sunny day were in the low 90's. The White Rhinoceros is one of the world’s biggest land animals, second only in size to the African and Asian elephant. The flexible upper lip is broad and square rather than pointed like that of the black rhino's.
