On August 25, 2012, we left the Royal Livingstone Hotel in a safari vehicle and drove to a different entrance to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park for a late afternoon birding and big game expedition. A female White (Square-lipped) Rhinoceros, Ceratotherium simum, was foraging in a grassland near the roadway. The white rhinos in this area of the park are protected by armed guards....entry to the area is restricted. Temperatures on this sunny day were in the low 90's. Sexual maturity is reached at around six years in females and ten to twelve years in males. Rhinos are grazers and feed on large quantities of grasses.
