Brad took a closeup shot of a Giant Kingfisher (Megaceryle maximus) as it perched on a branch overlooking the shoreline of the Zambezi River above Victoria Falls the morning of August 25, 2012. We were out on an early morning boat trip to bird and look for big game in the Mosi-oa-Tunya (smoke that thunders) National Park areas along the shoreline. Temperatures on this sunny day were in the upper 60's. This male, with its russet-brown colored breast, and speckled and barred black and white body, is highlighted by the morning sunlight.
