After returning from our boat trip to bird along the shorline areas of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambezi River above Victoria Falls, Joanne and I joined our VENT guide, Geoff, for some additional birding on the grounds of The Royal Livingstone Hotel. Brad photographed a Holub's (African) Golden Weaver, Ploceus xanthops, perched along the reedy bank of the Zambezi River. The iris is a pale yellow. Upperparts are greenish, and underparts are yellow. Note the heavy black bill and the orangish wash over this male's throat. Temperatures on this sunny day (August 25, 2012) were in the low 80's.
