Our group met up late in the afternoon on August 24, 2012, to bird during a walk to Victoria Falls along the grounds of the Royal Livingstone Hotel which is located in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia. Victoria Falls is also located in the same park. This statue (erected in 2005) of explorer Dr. David Livingstone greeted us as we entered the falls via the Eastern Cataract (Zambian side). The 'Victoria Falls' bronze statue by Sir William Reid Dick of Dr. David Livingstone has been on the Zimbabwean side overlooking the Devil's Cataract since the 1950's. Zambia would like the original statue restored to its side of the falls since Dr. Livingstone became the first European to sight the falls from the Zambian side of the Zambezi River. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this bright, sunny day with clear blue skies.
