After birding along the Zambian side of the Zambezi River above Victoria Falls the morning of August 25, 2012, we entered Zimbabwe's territory along the river for additional birding. After about an hour, we returned to Zambian waters and landed on an island to have tea and do more birding. Temperatures on this sunny day were in the mid-70's. The male Scarlet-chested Sunbird (Chalcomitra senegalensis) was one of the species that we saw perched in the trees. The male has a large red breast patch, iridescent green whiskers and forecrown on its otherwise black body.
