This picture was taken on our journey to the end of the Kougarok Road in Nome, Alaska. It was a partly cloudy, cold day with temperatures in the mid-20's to mid-30's. Our main objective of this day was to see the Bristle-thighed Curlew after a brutal hike up Coffee Dome. Once there, all we saw were Whimbrels--even the birds along the ridge were Whimbrels. We may have heard a Bristle-thighed Curlew, but with bird-call tapes playing, it's a difficult call.
