This photograph was taken from the side of the Clipper Adventurer on the Promenade Deck on our second full day at sea, December 21, 2006. We were south bound in the Drake Sea and heading for the Antarctic Peninsula. The weather was partly cloudy with temperatures in the low 30's. This species is identified by its lighter head (grey) and white rump. Typically the birds would fly in the wake of the ship and then veer to the right or left side of the ship. Once in awhile one would fly overhead affording spectacular views.
