This photograph of a flock of Cape Petrels was taken from the side of the Clipper Adventurer's Promenade Deck on the morning of December 28, 2006. Our scheduled landings in the South Orkney Islands were cancelled because of weather. This island group consists of a group of four major islands, Coronation, Signy, Powell and Laurie Island plus many other smaller islets. Sealers scoured the islands throughout the 1800's and annihilated virtually every seal within the islands. The weather was foggy, misty, and cold with temperatures in the mid-30's. We are in the Scotia Sea surrounded by lots of big icebergs!
