This photograph of a flying Wandering Albatross was taken on Prion Island which is located in the Bay of Isles on the north coast of South Georgia. We had approximately thirty minutes to disembark our Zodiac, climb the path upwards to where Wandering Albatrosses were nesting, look at any other birds around and get on our way again without getting nipped by fur seals. The temperature was in the mid-40's on this partly cloudy January 1, 2007. This was our seventeenth Zodiac trip. South Georgia regulates access to this island because it wants to be sure that the island stays rat free and remains a safe place for burrowing seabirds and nesting Wandering Albatrosses.
